In the past I used to leave my computer on most of the time except for situations where I was running something that had been bugging me and I didn't want to pause it or I was doing some heavy processing on an application. I would leave the computer on overnight to make sure that I caught some of the best deals I might have missed on the day I left. This meant that my HDD would get pretty hot when I left it on, but there was no way to know how hot the hard drive was getting. There were tools I would use on Windows 7 such as MediaInfo which would tell me when I switched it off how much time had passed since it was last accessed. With the new System Management Mode implemented in Windows 8/8.1, I no longer have that feature. I still have a lot of logic that runs on Windows that tells me the temperature of the CPU, the GPU, and the hard drives, but I have no idea how much time has passed since the last check. I am very much aware that there is an opportunity cost associated with waiting longer than I have to process some item, so I'm doing my best to keep tabs on it. One thing I have noticed however is that many applications, especially games, now ask for IPCONFIG to be run, and that pulls up the last used time. I haven't bothered to find out whether or not that reflects how hot the hard drives are getting, but I haven't noticed a particularly long delay in obtaining that information. If I were to run a benchmark app or something to tell me how hot the hard drive was getting, that would also be useful, but I haven't found a way to generate one. Is there any reason why laptops with Windows 8/8.1 no longer push the hard drive temperature up and look 09e8f5149f Microsoft Operations Readiness Toolkit The Microsoft Operations Readiness Toolkit is a software that provides tools for Microsoft partners to prepare for the launch of new services and how these changes will affect your business.
